Ice chewer on one side
Deal-maker, titan, master-of-his-fate on the other
Public announcements mixed with the jumbled
Chaos of a dozen conversations
Overlaid by the sound of my own questions that will not
Shut up
And you want me to be still and know that you are God
That I am my beloved's
That in quietness and confidence shall be my strength

There is no quiet here, Lord.
Not here.

But there is a corner of my shallow mind
Where the only sound is the far away heart
The only lyric is longing
Where I choose to pay attention to one thing,
The thing,
Where your silence is deafening,
Your presence all that is required.

I go there so seldom
I may not remember the way.
